Homeownership

Owning a home is the dream of most American households. Putting down roots in a community and accumulating equity and wealth in one's home are often a source of pride. In New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina however, homeowners were more likely to face unaffordable housing costs than homeowners nationwide. Renters too have suffered, with 55 percent of renters in the city paying more than 35 percent of their income on rent and utilities.

ASII addresses these problems and helps residents fulfill their dreams of homeownership through credit & debt counseling, first-time homebuyer education, and foreclosure intervention counseling.

ASII established its Counseling and Financial Education Program upon its 2006 HUD certification as a Housing Counseling Agency. Since the program’s inception, more than 1,100 clients have been served through workshops and one-on-one counseling sessions. Counseling services are primarily conducted in the Community Resource Center located at 3401 St. Claude Avenue, however, because of its partnership with ASI Federal Credit Union, the counseling team can make special accommodations for counseling sessions at many of the credit union’s branches in locations such as Mid-City, Uptown, Downtown, and the Westbank. The Counseling offices as well as the classroom used for homebuyer education courses all are located on the first floor of the Community Resource Center for convenience. Additionally, all locations are ADA compliant.

ASII adheres to the National Standards of Housing Counseling and Homebuyer Education for all housing counseling and homebuyer education standards. Additionally, ASII is certified through the Louisiana Homebuyer Education Collaborative.

Our Counseling and Financial Education Program provides the following services:

  • Credit & Debt Counseling
  • Foreclosure Intervention Counseling
